Taylor Brewing Company
Taylor Brewing Company was kind enough to help Flowers for Heroes towards its mission by donating $1.00 from every full slab of award winning ribs sold October 20th Through November 1st.
Along with this donation, Taylor Brewing Co’s marketing team designed a great flyer that was accompanied by three red carnations in a glass vase. These were placed on every table and really was a beautiful way to share our mission to their customers.
A special thank you to Gary & Jeanine Taylor for their support and hard work that went into this fundraiser.

Thanks to the support of Kathy Bukowy, the Day manager; Eric Brasch, the Evening manager; and the help of Shalandra Olden who helped collect donations and sell Harley V-rod Raffle tickets.

Flowers for Heroes visited Shadow Hill Ranch (home of Country Thunder) in Twin Lakes, WI to attend the Big Border Bike Rally. Russ, Midge, Jerry and Jerry’s nine-year-old nephew Brandon all bundled up in warm clothes to spend the day with our Harley enthusiasts.
The event was a hit with plenty of fun entertainment including music, motorcycles, celebrity appearances, games, contests, and much more. We ended up leaving the rally a little early when the snow began to roll in but the FFH team had a blast!

September 9, 2009 – This Veterans Day, November 11th, a collaboration of local organizations will unite to honor roughly 20,000 veterans and their families at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. With volunteers estimated in the hundreds, every gravesite will be decorated with a bouquet of flowers in admiration of the sacrifices made by the members of our Armed Forces.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery and the 200th birthday of America’s 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. In honor of this, Flowers for Heroes has teamed up other organizations including the Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run to make this Veterans Day something to remember
A special Gold Star Family hour will take place at 8:00am where the families of those buried at ALNC will be presented special bouquets they can place on the resting place of their loved ones. Following the placing of the bouquets, there will be a special Veterans Day Ceremony featuring an aircraft fly-over and special guests including IL Gov. Pat Quinn.
The success of this event rests in the hands of the people and businesses in our community. Supporters can go to www.flowersforheroes.org and sponsor a patriotic bouquet in the name someone who is currently serving or has previously served in our nation’s Armed Forces. For $4, a bouquet of flowers will be placed on the resting place of another great American Hero at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
“This is a very special day for every American as we honor our most patriotic citizens,” said Jerry Cizek, the Director of Operations at Flowers for Heroes. “We are thrilled to be able to bring together numerous military and veteran organizations at this special celebration for our Veterans.”
Flowers for Heroes is a nonprofit organization that has been working on these types of events all across the nation. At the group’s most recent event this past Independence Day, over 5,000 bouquets were placed at Gettysburg National Cemetery.

Mullens Bar and Grille Fundraiser Success
I would thank Mullens Bar and Grill in Lisle, IL for helping us raise money for our upcoming event at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. The event was a huge success. The manager of Mullens, Ryan Harris, and his staff were extremely supportive and helped make the event a huge success. There was a great turnout from our supporters and we were able to interact with the regulars to continue spreading awareness.
Mike Apostle, one of the newest members to the FFH team, did an excellent job planning and setting up this event. If you didn’t get a chance to make it out last night don’t worry, we will be there next Thursday. Euclid Beverage will be donating a keg of Miller Lite that the bar will sell and donate the money back to FFH. Spice up your Thursday night, come have a beer with good people, and show your support for our troops.
Thank you Mullens and all of our supporters for such a wonderful night!!!

Willow Brook Ballroom: Flowers for Heroes – Heroes Forever Concert Fundraiser
by Russ Phillip Jr.
About a month ago I was contact by a member of the Del Souls, a local Chicagoland band. Bill Rohde proceeded to tell me how much the Del Souls appreciate and admire the Flowers for Heroes efforts. After a very exciting conversation, Bill explained how they would like show their support by hosting a benefit concert. Immediately following the conversation, we put our heads down and got to work planning the event…
At 7:30 sharp, the Flowers for Heroes “Heroes Forever” Concert started off with a bang as the Del Souls hit the stage and our supporters continued to fill the ballroom. Midge was our resident MC for the night as he entertained the crowd between the various musical performances and special guests.
The Del Souls and the Flowers for Heroes team collaborated to deliver an exciting night of music, dancing, comedy and numerous special entertainers including the Brooze Brothers, Joe Cantafio from the 101st Rock Division and Scott Lee Cohen, the Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor of the State of Illinois. Comedian Staci Lynn Fletcher had the crowd practically rolling on the ground as she delivered a side splitting comedy routine. The entertainment alone was magnificent, but that was not all that we had to offer our guests.
Though our sponsors, local business, and the generosity of our community, Flowers for Heroes was able to have a silent auction of numerous autographed items as well as raffle off such prizes as Harley Davidson memorabilia, a flat screen television, and numerous gift certificates to different businesses. In addition, a 50/50 raffle awarded a $240 prize to one lucky winner.
We were fortunate to have a very diverse crowd of people in attendance that night. From young to old, all were eating, drinking, and dancing the night away. It was great to see everyone having such a great time and showing their support for our nation’s fallen heroes.
It was our mission to promote Flowers for Heroes and raise awareness for Gold Star Families and the event turned out to be a huge success. You can see pictures of the event by clicking here: Heroes Forever Concert Pictures
We have another fundraising event coming up at Top Golf in Wooddale on August 15th at 2pm.
We hope to see you there.

by Russ Phillip Jr.
If you all haven’t heard thru Radio or Television , Flowers for Heroes will be back out east in September. We will be doing similar installation in Antietam in mid September.
I expect that the installation will be totally different. The town is different, the amount of visitors is different and the cemetery is different. But what a great place. Flowers for Heroes will visit Antietam to again recognize the beginning of the creation of our country and the beginning of our existence. Antietam – the bloodiest battle known to America.
Additional events this year could range from doing Lincoln in Illinois this year to visiting Normandy. We have been approved at Normandy however, we will need additional funding to complete.
We plan on accommodating 3-4 installation per year. If the funding is available we will press on and do more. One piece of our mission is to visit all 130 veteran cemetery’s and the 100 overseas before revisiting business plan. We will leave no one behind. All of our Heroes will be decorated with flowers before I am done.
Hope to see you there.
